DIGILENS® POCKET PROJECTOR (White Paper)
DigiLens® Pocket Projector Reference Design is capable of delivering
100 lumens using a MEMS panel (TI or SP) with an F/2.2 objective. Shown here is a single panel LCOS version delivering 55lms from a Luminus Devies PT-39 LED array. The duty cycle is 87% with the
LCoS panel running at 360Hz. Image contrast is typically 200:1. An
important feature of this design is the ability to dynamically control
duty cycle allowing contrast to be increased at the expense of
brightness. The duty cycle control scheme compensates for the
inherent LC relaxation during the settlement time by dynamically
increasing the sub-frame delay before illumination. The Reference
Design is translatable to DLP where outputs as high as 100 lumens
are feasible.
The drive circuitry PCB is designed to have a common anode chassis mount to maximize LED and power rectifier thermal conduction. The
PCB is T-Clad thermal sub-straight with laser ablated dielectric allowing
the LEDs to be mounted to the lower copper layer. The power board
contains all power rectifiers and "noisy" power switch control alongside
the LEDs to avoid video noise.
The carrying weight of
just less than 300 grams represents roughly half that of rival products.
At approximately 220 cubic cm. the volume of SBG Labs' projector is less
than half that of its nearest rival. However, it should be emphasized that
from the end user’s perspective the slim 29 mm case thickness likely
represents the most significant form factor innovation.
