Specifications

Diffraction Efficiency (Transmission Hologram)
Typical peak efficiency is approximately 95%. Typical on/off contrast is 750:1.

Diffraction Efficiency (DE) variation with angle – angular bandwidth

The range of incidence angles which result in efficient diffraction (i.e. the angular acceptance or bandwidth) is a function of the hologram geometry and the material parameters. Typically the angular bandwidth is:
@ 40° Bragg Angle) Angular Bandwidth = 20° (FWHM)
@ ± 3° of Bragg Angle 90% of peak DE
@ ± 5° of Bragg Angle 80% of peak DE

Scatter and Stray Light
Scatter is typically less than 1%. Stray light is typically less than 0.1% of incident light

Switching Speed
SBG switching speeds (rise time or fall time between 10% - 90% of diffraction efficiency switching range) are typically 40 – 400us

Power Consumption
The nominal power consumption is less than 0.05mW/mm2. Typical applied voltages are below 8V.

Spectral Bandwidth
A SBG provides high diffractive efficiency for spectral bandwidths in the range 20-50 nm

Polarization Characteristics
A SBG provides maximum diffraction efficiency for p-polarized light.

Optical Transmission
Typically, the transmission of an SBG is greater than 98% for normal incidence. When the SBG is being used as an imaging element, the effective transmission is given by the diffraction efficiency, along with small fixed losses due to materials and coatings. When the SBG is used in its see-through mode (that is, using the zero-order, undiffracted beam), transmission is limited by coating and material losses and residual diffraction.

SBG Thickness
The active layer of an SBG is sandwiched between flat optical glass substrates with ITO electrode coatings applied to the inside surfaces of each plate. Substrate thicknesses typically range from 0.4-1.0 mm. A three layer DigiLens formed with glass of thickness 0.4 mm will have an overall thickness of 2.4 mm. Devices formed with polyester as the substrate medium will be considerably (5X) thinner.

Wavelength Range
The wavelength range of an SBG can be optimized from ultraviolet to near infrared

Environmental Conformance
Less than 1% performance variation 0° to 55°C

Reliability
Batch tested to 5000 hrs 85/85 accelerated life test.

Typically 10,000h Operation (Room) 10,000h Storage (85C/85%RH)
